When silence threatens our narrative, our voices become the resistance.
Noir Design Parti invites architects, designers, and allied professionals to submit proposals for “Fighting Erasure” – a powerful platform to celebrating, amplifying, and preserving the indispensable contributions of Black women in architecture, design, and the built environment.
WHY PARTICIPATE?
Black women architects and designers have shaped cities, neighborhoods, and culture, often without recognition. Their vision has fueled innovation, resilience, and community building, yet their stories remain untold and their achievements uncelebrated.
“Fighting Erasure” offers a dynamic space to:
- Share your journey as a Black woman in architecture, design, or related fields.
- Highlight the Black women who inspire your work and worldview.
- Showcase design projects, research, or community initiatives rooted in visibility, justice, and cultural preservation.
- Present innovative strategies that challenge erasure in architecture, design education, and practice and ensure Black women’s contributions remain visible and valued.
- Connect with like-minded individuals committed to authentic representation and transformation in the built environment.
WHAT IS PECHA KUCHA?
Pecha Kucha (pronounced peh-chak-cha) is a presentation format where speakers show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, creating a concise, fast-paced 6-minute, 40-second presentation. This format encourages creativity, precision, and impact – making your message memorable.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
- We welcome proposals from:
- Architects and designers across all disciplines
- Students and emerging professionals shaping the future of design
- Educators and researchers amplifying hidden histories
- Cultural producers, planners, and builders invested in community impact
- Creative collaborators who champion the visibility of Black women’s contributions
